EE Kestrel

EE has revealed a new, own–brand 4G handset priced just £100 on pay as you go, in a sign that super-fast mobile internet is finally becoming more affordable.

The phone, called Kestrel, will also be available for free on pay monthly deals starting at just £14. And while specs aren't hugely impressive, this is all about the price.

That £14 a month contract will snare you 500 minutes, 500MB of data and unlimited texts over a two-year period. That’s certainly not to be sneered at in these straitened financial times.

As far as features go, the handset's 4.3–inch screen comes in at just 960x540, with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be boosted by adding a microSD card.

There’s also a five megapixel snapper round the back and a rather snappy quad–core processor under the hood.

EE has said this will be the first in a string of own–brand 4G phones. The move will doubtless help bring more tech–shy punters onto super fast LTE, especially with rival networks now offering extremely competitive 4G packages.
