Rumours that Apple will back phablets to boost sales this year looked a little bit more nailed-on today, in the wake of fresh rumblings from the tech giant’s supply chain.

Sources cited by Taiwanese site DigiTimes posit that Apple-affiliated printed circuit board manufacturers Zhen Ding Technology Holding and Flexium Interconnect are both ramping up capacity right now and are expected to enjoy bumper profits for 2014.

Zeng Ding’s revenue is set to surge to NT$70 billion in 2014, after a 21.9% rise in the first two months of this year.

Flexium’s drive to boost capacity is expected to yield sales of NT$2 billion per month for the rest of the year. Its revenue in January and February was up 17.1%.

According to the site’s insiders, the impetus for the improvement will come from massive sales for iPhones with larger screens and concomitant demand for circuit boards.

In keeping with earlier reports, it’s said that Apple will bring two new phones to market in the autumn, both with larger displays.

The lower-cost option will purportedly pack a 4.7-inch screen, while the top-end model will feature a 5.5-inch number that brings iPhones more in line with the largest Android kits.

Previous leaks indicate Apple will do away with the bezel around the screens, enabling it to offer a larger display while keeping the handset itself the same size.

The iPhone 6 is also expected to feature an A8 processor manufactured by Samsung. It had been thought that the South Korean company was being edged out as relations with Apple continue to worsen.
