Samsung Galaxy S4 black and white official (front and back)

The Galaxy Gear is now a free deal-sweetener for customers signing up for the Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3 on Vodafone, as carriers clear stock with the smartwatch’s sequels about to land.

Samsung’s first-ever foray into wearable technology is a free gift on all Vodafone 12-month and 24-month contracts for its current-gen phablet and former-flagship Galaxy S handset. But to qualify you’ll need to sign up online before March 31st.

Perhaps the pick of the Galaxy S4 plans is £33 per month over 24 months and gets you 600 minutes and 500MB of 3G data per month and unlimited text messages.

Forced to choose the best Note 3 contract, we’d probably opt for Voda’s £42 per month plan which is also over 24 months. This buys you 2GB of data per month, as well as unlimited calls and texts.

The giveaway comes as Samsung is readying its fresh wave of wearables for release, in the form of the wellbeing-focussed Galaxy Fit and the Gear 2.

Both the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 were recently updated to the latest KitKat version of Android in the UK. Or at least, they were if you owned an unlocked versions that you bought SIM free and off-contract.

Even so, that ought to mean that carrier rollouts ought to start soon, bringing with them cloud printing, a revamped dialler and a suite of bug fixes and performance enhancements.
