If you thought the 6.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Mega was a big phone, check this out: Samsung is rumoured to be working on a 7-inch successor that makes the Mega seem positively pocket-friendly.

Assuming the rumours are true, the handset would be as big as the Google Nexus 7 tablet.

The device was spotted by Mobile Geeks. It's certified as the SM-T2558 by TENAA, China's regulatory telecommunications authority.

So what can we expect apart from a big screen? Well, the display will have a resolution of 720p, while inside will be a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 1.5GB of RAM.

It'll also have an 8-megapixel camera on the back, and a 2-megapixel front-facer. And its 8GB of storage will be expandable using a microSD card.

All of which would position it somewhere in the mid-range, much like its 6.3-inch predecessor.

Whether there's a market for a 7-inch handset or not, we'll have to wait and find out. One thing that's a lot more certain is that it'll be very tricky to use such an expansive device with one hand.

Mobiles have been getting bigger for some time now. Last year's HTC One Max had a 5.9-inch screen, and the Galaxy Note 3's measured up at 5.7 inches.

We're expecting new models of both this year. And the chances are they'll get even bigger.

Even Apple is rumoured to be working on a bigger iPhone. The iPhone 6 is reputed to come in a 5.5-inch version, which would be quite a step for Tim Cook and co.

The iPhone 5S only has a 4-inch screen, which makes it look puny compared to most high-end rivals.
