Early production moulds for the iPhone 6 could have leaked online, further confirming that Apple smartphone leak-season is well and truly happening.

Snaps of the moulds for the handset, which first cropped up on Chinese site Feng.com before debuting on nowhereelse.fr, suggest that the handset will feature more rounded edges in contrast to the squared-off aesthetic Apple has favoured since the iPhone 4.

That chimes neatly, and sceptics might say a bit too neatly, with existing rumours that Apple could go with a more rounded look this time around. One that’s not a million miles from the iPhone 3GS.

Alas, the dimensions of the mould weren’t mentioned by the poster, so there’s no way of knowing if it corroborates speculation that Apple will finally bow to consumer demand and a bring a larger, phablet-sized iPhone to market in 2014.

For what it’s worth, though, it’s advisable not to set too much in store in the images anyway, which have been given a frosty response in some of the more august tech sites.

Not least Apple Insider which notes that the mould features a “protruding rear-facing camera and round cut-out” that would typically house an LED flash and that seems hugely at odds with Apple’s recent approach to housing its camera.

This has seen Apple opt for a tablet-shaped hole to incorporate the dual-flash it now favours.

The leak comes at the end of a month that has also seen the appearance online of a video of a case apparently intended for the iPhone 6.

A front-panel with a smaller bezel, presumably to make way for a larger screen, also showed up, prompting excitable sorts to cite it as clear proof that the iPhablet is on the way.
