The Samsung Galaxy S5 finally went on sale today, ending weeks of waiting for would-be owners and sparking what could be the start of a price war between vendors.

Vodafone is offering the phone from £42 per month (plus £19 upfront), which gets you 5GB of 4G data per month, plus unlimited calls and texts.

It also nabs you six months free subscription to your choice of Sky Sports Mobile or Spotify.

Normally priced £10 per month, the latter enables you to stream music on your phone as well as download songs to listen to on your phone while you’re offline.

Phones 4U announced it is offering a free seven-inch Galaxy Tab 3 tablet to Galaxy S5 buyers who sign up for it online or from one of its 700 bricks-and-mortar outlets.

Carphone Warehouse’s major retail competitor is also throwing in a £25 voucher to spend on movies, music, games and apps at the Google Play download store.

Elsewhere, Tesco Mobile has come to market with an aggressive £34.50 per month price point for the Galaxy S5 on a 4G contract. Here, the allowances are 1,500 minutes, 5,000 texts and 1GB of 4G data per month.
