Would-be Sony Xperia Z2 buyers who’ve pre-ordered their handset on Vodafone can rest assured they’ll get their new phone this month, the carrier has confirmed, amid reports that its official due date has now slipped to May.

Unveiled back in February at Mobile World Congress, the Xperia Z2 garnered a slew of rave notices for its sharp looks and lavish spec sheet, making it by some distance the best received Sony effort for years.

Alas, the handset's passage to market has since been stymied by manufacturing glitches and unspecified production complications. It’s expected that these will cause stock shortages even when the Xperia Z2 does land on shop shelves.

Today, however, Vodafone has at least pacified its subscribers after confirming that it is among the ‘key partners’ whom Sony this week pledged will be furnished with enough stock to ensure their pre-order Xperia Z2 customers get their phones this month.

The carrier outlined its position in a messageboard update addressed to Ogily & Mather social marketing sage James Whatley, who some of you may know as the man behind these spooksome snaps of Tube stations in London.

The message stated: “There have been several news stories lately about the launch date for the Sony Xperia Z2 being pushed back.

“If you’ve already pre-ordered though - we’ve got you covered - we’ll be sending your phones from the 14th April.”

Vodafone’s Z2 early-bird offer was especially in demand, our records suggest. Not least thanks to a promotion that included a free Bravia TV for the first 3,000 customers to pre-order the handset.

We’ve approached rival networks for some sort of confirmation over when they expect to have stock of the Xperia Z2. We’ll be sure to update you when we’ve firmed up details.
