The iPhone 6 could be unveiled in August, if a new report emerging from Taiwan is to be believed. Supply-chain sources reckon Cupertino is gearing up for an earlier launch than initially planned.

The insiders, speaking with local media, reckon Apple will pull the wrappers off its two new models during the summer break.

The rumoured smaller, 4.7–inch model will purportedly hit shelves in the same month, while the larger 5.5–inch version will land in September.

Such a move would dovetail with previous rumours, which suggest Apple is having some trouble manufacturing the larger, 5.5–inch panels in sufficient quantities.

An August launch is out of keeping with previous years. Apple has held its annual iPhone reveal in autumn ever since 2010, so it’s worth taking these latest reports with a pinch of salt.
