A newly leaked image, snared by Mac fans in Australia, appears to show the back cover of the forthcoming iPhone 6 for the first time.
Until now we’ve only seen mock-ups based on case design and schematics, but this back plate appears to be the real deal. Macfixit Australia’s snap clearly shows a silver model, covered in green protective film.
The antenna and camera holes are consistent with previous drawings and leaks. The metal design also suggests what we're looking at is a bona-fide Apple component, rather than the plastic versions we’ve become accustomed to seeing.
This is the 4.7–inch model. A 5.5–inch version is also due for release, but hasn't been anything like as visible on tech sites in recent weeks, with leaks around the so-called iPhablet seeming to dry up.
The iPhone 6 is due to launch in autumn, with its software, iOS 8, being trailed at next week’s Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC).
