That a new iPhone will tip up in September is in little doubt. But it looks even more nailed-on today, after Apple purportedly barred retail staff from taking time off that month.

The embargo on holidays, which comes a full four months or so until the phone is due, applies to workers at Apple’s German outlets, according to fansite iFun.de.

Both the last two generations of iPhones tipped up in September, while the iPhone 4S landed in October. Those of you with longer memories will recall that before that it was June that was officially designated iPhone launch month.

News of Apple's plans comes amid a swirl of iPhone 6 leaks from the tech giant's ever-growing and ever-more porous supply chain, in a further sign that the next-gen smartphone isn’t far away now.

It’s thought that this year will once again be graced by two iPhones: a 4.7-inch model and a beefy 5.5-inch stablemate that would be the first-ever Apple phablet.

The phones are also expected to feature a more rounded look that isn’t a million miles from the iPhone 3GS. Since the iPhone 4, Apple has gone with a rather squared-off design.

Present and correct in both models it seems is the Healthbook app. Chiming with the vogue for quantified-self tools and gadgets, this wellbeing application monitors calories burned, distance covered in runs and walks and tracks your weight loss.

More attention-grabbing, though, is that it’ll also monitor blood pressure and glucose levels and even serve up reminders to take medication.
