Samsung is working on a new smartwatch that will use gesture controls alongside a standard touch interface.

Plans for the device were revealed in a patent application unearthed by the keen Samsung fans at Sammy Today. And it’s not just gestures made when moving the device which it's able to register.

See, Sammy is also working out how the watch would recognise movements of a non watch-wearing hand.

The filing gives the example of a user clenching their first in order to complete an action on the device.

That would at least keep the watch face clear, so users could see what was happening on screen.

This idea remains in the planning stage. However, it does show that Samsung is already looking well beyond its current array of smartwatches, unveiled back in February at Mobile World Congress.
