Apple will unveil the much–hyped Healthbook app at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) later today. That’s according to a New York Times report, which seemingly puts an end to rumours about the next version of iOS being delayed.

According to ‘a person briefed on the product’, the new app, which looks set to form a cornerstone of iOS 8, will be able to track key health data by hooking-up to a range of third-party products.

That suggests Apple is not simply looking to use its own kit to draw data such as heart rate, pace and even oxygen saturation.

The source says that while manufacturers will be able to dovetail their products with Healthbook, Apple’s own iWatch smartwatch will also play nice when it is revealed later this year.

Apple is also laying plans for smart home software, aimed at taking on Google’s newly acquired Nest Labs.
