ios 8 leak detail

Apple's freshly baked iOS 8 software will serve up 4,000 new APIs, the tech giant confirmed at yesterday's WWDC event, setting the scene for a surge in cool apps once the platform is officially released in the autumn.

Among the slew of tweaks now available to developers is HealthKit, Apple’s new platform which ties in with its just-revealed Health app. This tool will allow developers to pool and share health data between apps, building more complete health profiles for users.

Likewise, HomeKit is aimed at taking on Google’s Nest Labs and is designed to offer a common protocol to allow in-home devices to speak to each other and be controlled by iOS-powered gadgets.

That means you can control everything from your garage door to your thermostat using your iPhone.

Touch ID, the iPhone 5S’s fingerprint scanner, is now open to developers to use to allow improved security within apps too.

And rounding off the big announcements was a new coding language for developers called Swift and a graphics technology, dubbed Metal, that should put iOS gaming even further ahead of the competition.
