The iPhone 6 looks set to tip-up earlier than expected and could adopt ‘Air’ branding for the larger 5.5-inch model, rumours suggest.

Latterly, evidence has pointed towards a simultaneous launch date of September 19th for the 4.7-inch model and its phablet running mate. That tallies broadly with last year, when the iPhone 5S and 5C emerged onstage at Cupertino on September 20th.

Today, though, that due date was called into question.

According to sources cited Chinese site China.com, whose report was picked up by GforGames, the handsets are dropping on September 15th. Both will then purportedly be on shop shelves on September 25th.

The site also reiterates rumours that the larger iPhone 6 will be branded the iPhone Air to reflect its 6mm thickness.

That’s pretty credible given Apple’s habit of extending its nomenclature across its product range and the fact that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 has been touted as the thinnest-ever smartphone.

And in the last juicy titbid from the report, it seems that contrary to what we’ve heard, we may get a 16GB version of the iPhone 6 after all.

Previous rumours indicated that the cheapest, entry-level edition of the handset would be 32GB, which would sit alongside 64GB and 128GB models.

Other spec-sheet details of the handsets remain under-wraps. But speculation suggests the iOS 8-powered phones will feature a more curved design, enhanced cameras and a more robust version of Touch ID fingerprint security.
