apple iwatch boxes

Tim Cook appears to have sparked a new rumour about Apple’s rumoured iWatch. During a recent meeting with analyst Steve Milunovich from banking giant UBS, Apple's CEO is believed to have talked up the possibilities of sending voice messages from a smartwatch.

Cook apparently told Milunovich that he was impressed by the number of people he’d seen on a trip to China using their smartphones to send voice messages rather than SMS or IM.

He claimed that if this tech was part of a watch, it would make more sense for the consumer as they wouldn’t need to whip out their phone every time they wanted to fire off a missive.

His comments have sparked wild speculation about whether this kind of tech will make its way into the iWatch.

iOS 8 already offers users the ability to send such messages, so it may well be that Apple won’t struggle to port the tech over to its new wearable.

The iWatch is widely expected to be released in autumn this year, as Apple looks to take the fight to a number of key players who have already released smartwatches.

Android Wear and Samsung’s Gear range are already making waves in the smartwatch world.
