Microsoft has unveiled a new app called Video Tuner that lets you indulge your inner movie director. And we’ve got an exclusive hands-on video to walk you through the software’s features.

The free appliction will be exclusive to Nokia Lumia handsets running Windows Phone 8.1 and allows you to spruce-up plain-looking videos and make them much snappier. Think of it as Nokia Creative Studio only for vids and not still images and you’re there.

Features on board include the option to use colour, black and white and negative filters, tweak exposure levels and soundtrack the action with music tracks.

You can also trim footage, slow it all down and alter size or aspect ratios.

And for the social networking-fixated types among you, it offers built-in exporting to Vine and Instagram, all from inside the app.

As you'd expect with a Nokia device, you can upload your fancy-looking clips straight to Microsoft's OneDrive cloud storage service and take advantage of its new, free 15GB data allowance.

Video Tuner will be available in the Windows Store this week. Keep an eye out for it here.

Handsets running Windows Phone 8.1 that are compatible with the app are the Nokia Lumia 630, Nokia Lumia 635 (the 630’s 4G sibling) and the upcoming Nokia Lumia 930.

Current Windows Phone 8 devices are due to get updated to 8.1 this summer.
