Apple’s new reversible Lightning Cable has been filmed in action, as evidence mounts up that major changes are afoot in the iPhone charging game.

Clips of the cable show it being ‘blindly’ inserted into a Mac’s USB slot either way up. It’s a whole new world of connectivity! And smoother than Terry Thomas coated in Mr Sheen, no?

The change has been enabled by the genuinely pretty smart ‘floating’ connector that first cropped up in photos over the weekend.

Rather than being aligned to the left and fixed in place, the connector is central and moves to the ‘correct position’ when it's plugged into a USB slot.

A patent for the new design explained that it’s intended to reduce ‘user frustration’ caused by fiddling around trying to jab at ports. And it’s supposed to reduce damage too.

What appear to be market-ready retail boxes uncovered by uSwitch Tech this week suggest that the new model Lightning Cable will be introduced next month alongside the iPhone 6.

Apple’s next-gen smartphone, which is once again landing in two editions this year, is now expected to tip up on September 9th and go on general sale ten days later.

Available in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variants, the iPhone 6 is also purported to feature a more curved design, more processing brawn, a bigger battery and a much-improved camera.
