LG has teased plans for a new Android Wear smartwatch, just three months after it launched the G Watch.
The LG G Watch R will launch at the IFA trade show in Berlin next week and will feature a round face similar to the Moto 360.
A short clip, posted on LG’s official YouTube channel, shows a squared-off design being rounded out to form ‘a perfect circle’. A watch face then flashes on screen.
The move is somewhat surprising, given that LG’s G Watch is still relatively new. Reviews showed it to be very much a device for early adopters, while it seems the G Watch R will offer a more, ahem, rounded experience.
Android Wear has yet to become a mainstream success, although the slew of smartwatches set to debut at IFA could be a catalyst for that to change.
Asus is due to launch a budget smartwatch using Google’s platform at the event, while Motorola will tout another new model.
While anticipation surrounding the G Watch R and other Android Wear devices is palpable, the wearable-tech scene will not be complete until Apple’s launches its iWatch.
Industry wisdom suggests that the Cali tech giant's effort may not land until next year.
