The Samsung Galaxy Alpha will go on pre-order in six days time, in what should prove conclusively if a metal-build Galaxy handset is the solution to the phone-maker’s stagnating sales.

The latest addition to the Galaxy range will be up for pre-order from August 28th, ahead of its official street date of September 10th.

Developed in response to criticism of the Galaxy S4 and S5’s plastic construction, the Alpha features a premium metal build and super-slim 6.7mm-thin frame and arrives at a time when Samsung’s sales have dropped in the face of cheaper Android handsets and growing demand for the iPhone in new territories.

Under the bonnet, the Alpha’s feature set takes in a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display that’s a smidgeon smaller than the Galaxy S5 and a 12.1-megapixel rear facing camera with Panorama and Selective Focus modes.

You also get 4G support, a 2.1-megapixel front-facer for selfies, a handy Ultra Power Saving mode for eking out your battery and a Private Mode and fingerprint scanner that combine to help ensure your private data stays that way.

Pricing for the handset has yet to be confirmed. But expect it to be free from between £35 and £40 at launch.
