BT limits high-speed broadband trials

9 March 2005

BT has confirmed that only a very select few will get to experience the company's new high-speed broadband service as initial trials get underway in Greater London and Strathclyde.

The wholesale trial of its eight mbps ADSL services has only so far been made available to BT staff although area extensions for consumers are reportedly being planned for this summer.

"The first phase of the trial will be internal, but future information on customer involvement will be issued in the near future," commented a BT Retail spokesperson.

BT Wholesale has generated a considerable amount of consumer interest since first being announced last month.

The eight mbps potential represents a huge accessibility improvement on the current two mbps speeds in ADSL services.
