Britain's broadband prices down

23 March 2005

Five years after the first broadband consumer product was launched in the UK, the high speed internet service is continuing to go from strength to strength.

This is according to leading comparison website uSwitch.com whose latest market research shows that broadband prices are coming down whilst speeds and user numbers are rapidly rising.

"Since the launch of the first consumer broadband service by Telewest in March 2000, demand has gathered pace, " voiced Jon Miller, director of uSwitch.com.

"The broadband boom is set to continue although we are likely to see some significant consolidation in this market within the next couple of years.

"We as consumers are currently in a perfect situation to purchase broadband as competition and technological advancement take hold. Faster speeds and improved customer service will increasingly become important in this competitive market."

Figures released by uSwitch suggest 25 per cent of people in the UK spend at least four hours a day surfing the net, a statistic expected to help boost broadband connections to nine million by the end of 2005.
