Broadband growth continuing

24 March 2005

One of the UK's leading telecoms companies has confirmed that mounting household demand has caused yet another significant growth spurt in the nation's provision of broadband services.

According to figures from Telewest, the final three months of 2004 saw the largest ever intake of new broadband services.

A net total of 91,000 additions were registered during this quarter, nearly double the previous year's tally of 47,000.

A spokesperson at Telewest suggested that new users have been attracted by the wide ranging speed upgrades, such as those conducted by Telewest for the top three broadband tiers which were increased to one, two and four Mb at no extra cost in December last year.

Other figures from the report reveal that 47 per cent of broadband installations were for new customers in the same quarter.
