BT's imminent landmark of five million wholesale broadband customers needs to be considered in perspective, according to impartial comparison and switching service uSwitch.com.
The telecoms giant revealed earlier this week that it expects to reach the milestone a year earlier than expected, a fact that has had many analysts and consumers praising BT's provision of broadband to high heavens.
Jon Miller, director at uSwitch.com communications, has urged people not to get carried away however and still consider alternative suppliers.
"While this milestone is great news and there is no doubt that broadband is revolutionizing life in Britain, BT's actual broadband market share has decreased by ten per cent in the last five months," he notes.
"65 per cent of BT Wholesale's five million customers are actually with other providers such as the likes of Tiscali, Wanadoo and AOL, who all offer more competitive packages."
Mr Miller added: "There are many broadband packages available at an affordable price to suit any pocket, often at the same price as dial-up.
"We strongly urge consumers to shop around and take advantage of some of the great deals currently on offer, especially before signing up to a 12-month contract."
