Developers of a new rural broadband provision initiative have commenced the system's first trial period.
Electronics Weekly reports that the project has been designed on behalf of UK telecoms regulator Ofcom and will investigate the feasibility of providing wireless broadband access (WBA) to remote communities.
Research group Scientific Generics is carrying out the analysis which differs to previous studies in that it is using higher power signals than are currently allowed.
Andy Rhodes principal consultant at Scientific Generics commented: "This type of research is invaluable to the development of technology in rurally isolated areas.
"We are delighted to be working for Ofcom in the initial stages of understanding how to enable broadband technology in these areas."
The project is hoped to aid the 100% provision of broadband to UK communities.
