BT seals Wi-FI deal

8 April 2005

BT Openzone is to collaborate with Broadreach Networks in a move that will bring wireless broadband access to thousands of people throughout the UK.

The terms of the agreement will see the two companies share their UK Wi-Fi hotspots and should further establish Broadreach as one of the UK's leading independent location providers.

Magnus McEwan-King, founder and CEO of Broadreach Networks, commented: "Roaming is integral to Broadreach's business model and company philosophy.

"We've always believed that widespread adoption of Wi-Fi usage outside the home and office will only come if all of the providers involved make Wi-Fi as easy as possible for people to use.

"Partnering with BT Openzone is a major milestone in this endeavour."

Chris Clark, the chief executive of BT Wireless Broadband, echoed this sentiment, adding: "In order for Wi-Fi to work effectively, companies must work together and offer reciprocal roaming to customers."

More than 7,800 hotspots across the UK are now available for BT Openzone customers.
