Further steps are being taken to cross the broadband digital divide in Wales, following the announcement that the initiative is to receive EU funding.
The Welsh Assembly was pleased by the announcement that the European Commission plans to provide subsidies to help bring first generation broadband to currently under-served regions of Wales.
Under the Broadband Wales Programme, an internet service provider will be awarded a grant to provide the broadband coverage.
"I am pleased that we have been able to endorse public finance to develop broadband access for more remote areas in Wales," said EU competition commissioner Neelie Kroes.
"This will promote the economic development of these areas without distorting competition."
