Euro broadband overtakes America

European broadband subscription has overtaken America for the first time, according to a new report.

Carried out by Telecompaper, the study revealed that by the end of the first quarter of 2005, there were 47.95 million broadband subscribers in Europe.

This meant Europe had nipped ahead of the US, which recorded 47.53 million subscribers.

The Asia-Pacific region stays at the top, with 61 million subscribers.

Europe also enjoyed the greatest number of new subscriptions, with six million people signing up since the last quarter of 2004.
