Broadband boosts e-learning

27 June 2005

The broadband boom has increased consumers access to training, thanks to e-learning.

Training provider Denise Candy has stated that broadband has transformed the way businesses train their workforces.

"Many people cite long work hours and lack of childcare as major barriers to such learning, but e-learning largely removes those hurdles, as online courses can be studied for during work time, while sitting at one's desk - or even at home, negating the need for childcare completely" Ms Candy said.

"Broadband has transformed the way businesses in the South develop their workforces, and the resulting increases in employees' skills can lead to higher levels of staff motivation, retention and productivity.

"The new technology has made e-learning much faster and easier than slower dial-up services ever could, and with its cost continually falling, now almost to the same price as traditional packages, it's becoming more and more accessible, to even the smallest companies."

An indication of e-learning growth can be found in the 160,000 who have completed the Learndirect programmes.
