Homes and businesses on the Isles of Scilly, the most south-westerly point of the British Isles, are to benefit from the arrival of broadband.
St Mary's, the largest island, has had its connection upgraded to broadband, and Act Now Cornwall, financed by Objective One European funding, hopes to bring the technology to all homes and businesses in the county.
Button Reseigh, who runs Dibble and Grub, a cafe on St Mary's, told the BBC: "Broadband will help us with the day-to-day running of the restaurant.
"But we will be able to set up a wireless broadband hotspot enabling our customers access to their e-mail and the internet whilst relaxing and enjoying our food."
John Berry, managing director of Cornwall Enterprise, the lead partner in Act Now said: "For such a remote community, technological advancements like broadband are invaluable in order to allow businesses on the islands to compete on a level playing field with the rest of the country."
