Broadband company expels users

25 August 2005

Broadband provider PlusNet has terminated its contract with two customers after they allegedly abused the company's volunteer forum system.

The two users were said to have engaged in "disruptive activities over a number of months" when volunteering for PlusNet's customer support forums, and have been offered migration authorisation codes to move to another Internet Service Provider (ISP).

PlusNet said: "We have repeatedly answered these customer's questions and feel we have not reached a common understanding. Therefore we have offered these customers an opportunity to migrate to an alternative ISP of their choice, at no cost to them. We have no plans to contact any further customers in this manner."

The unusual move prompted two moderators from the PlusNet user group to resign in protest.

PlusNet was founded in 1997, and has become one of the UK's leading ISPs. PlusNet and sister brands (Force9, Free-Online) provide broadband and dial-up services to nearly 250,000 customers.
