Broadband goes 12 times faster

1 September 2005

Internet users in London can now get broadband at 24Mb.

The pilot scheme run by the internet service provider Be Unlimited will run for free until October with internet speeds 12 times faster than BT's current maximum speed of 2Mbps, although the company is piloting 8Mbps connections

Dana Pressman, managing director of Be, told Techworld: "We are hoping to build a very special community of pilot members.

"For anyone interested in new technology and the fastest speeds, this will be a must have product."

He added: "The Be team has worked really hard to be able to be the first ISP to offer ADSL 2+ to Britain."

The Be service will first only run in London, but the company hopes to spread further across the country in the coming months.

Be's high speed system uses ADSL2+ technology and customers will be offered September's service for free, and afterwards at £20 a month, as well as free connection and a Wi-Fi enabled modem.

Be is to be followed quickly into the market by UK Online.
