Be reveals 2.5Mb upload trials

17 March 2006

The internet service provider Be has announced that it has been running trials of a service that could offer customers uploading speeds of up to 2.5Mb.

The company said that the new upstreaming speeds were up to ten times faster than those of its rivals.

Its Annex M trials have been in progress since the end of last year and consumers involved in the trials achieved average upload speeds of 1.9Mb, which is 60% higher than the current uploading speed offered by the firm of 1.3Mb.

It says that once the trials have been completed it will upgrade its Office product to include the new technology without increasing the cost to subscribers.

"We are very excited about bringing another first to the UK market. It is very satisfying to offer a new technology with practical benefits at an unbeatable price level," Dana Pressman, Be's managing director.

This attitude defines what Be is about, and we will continue to challenge current norms."

The Be network now covers 80 unbundled exchanges and some 1.52 million lines.
