The broadband internet provider Bulldog has had a complaint against its advertising upheld after it failed to make clear to consumers that they had to have a home phone line with the company in order to take advantage of one of its broadband deals.
Complaints were received by the Advertising Standards Agency from BT as well as members of the public regarding an ad that appeared in the national press.
It offered readers up to 8Mb broadband for £9.75 for as long as a customer subscribed with them, including free Bulldog to Bulldog calls.
The offer was asterisked. Readers were directed to small print that stated that a Bulldog home phone line was required in order to take advantage of the deal, at a cost of £10.50.
Bulldog had argued that the ad made clear that a phone line was required, saying the asterisk next to the headline price was prominent and drew the reader's attention to the terms and conditions of the offer.
