The internet service provider (ISP) Tiscali has announced a deal that will see fellow ISP Plusnet use its unbundled network.
It means that Plusnet will be able to offer some of its customers higher broadband connection speeds. Some of its subscribers will be offered speeds of up to 24Mb in areas where Tiscali is using ADSL 2+ broadband technology.
Local loop unbundling (LLU) is the process by which ISPs install their own equipment into telephone exchanges, allowing them to offer their broadband services to the customers in the area.
Nathan Francis, general manager of Tiscali Business Services, said: "We are pleased that PlusNet has chosen Tiscali.
"Tiscali's unique offering of both DataStream and LLU allows us to provide a compelling national wholesale offer and therefore a great choice of services to our wholesale customers."
Tiscali added that it was currently adding to its LLU network and hoped to unbundle 600 exchanges by the end of the year. If they reach that target, it predicts it will be able to offer its services to 60% of the UK.
