BT could offer concert footage via broadband TV service

10 April 2006

BT is reportedly planning to offer concert footage through its online TV service when it is launched later this year.

Performances from more than 500 concerts by some of the world's leading musicians could be offered, according to Reuters.

"These important deals will allow us to bring concerts that would otherwise be very difficult - or impossible - to find on broadcast television to a wide audience," said Dan Marks, chief executive of BT Television Services, according to the news agency.

BT's service, called BT Vision, will offer both digital Freeview channels and selected paid-for services when it launches this autumn.

The new service is delivered via a high-speed broadband connection from the company.

It has already secured agreements with Paramount, BBC Worldwide and the National Geographic Channel to provide content for the television service.

New deals with i-concerts and Eagle Rock mean that BT will be able to provide concert footage by acts such as Franz Ferdinand, Keane, Bon Jovi, Andrea Bocelli, Billy Joel, Pavarotti, Roxy Music and Sheryl Crow.

BT has said that there will be no monthly subscription for its BT Vision product.
