Dial-up connection users could watch the entire World Cup in the time they waste in using a slow connection, according to uSwitch.com.
The comparison and switching website said that dial-up connection customers were potentially wasting 108 hours when compared to broadband, enough time to watch all 72 games of the forthcoming football World Cup.
Despite a rapid growth in the number of broadband connections in the UK, 5.4 million households in the country still use dial-up connections.
"With fierce competition in the broadband market resulting in the wider availability of faster speeds at cheaper prices, and 2006 set to see the widespread launch of IPTV, there is no excuse for people not to make the switch from dial-up to broadband," said Chris Williams, telecoms expert at uSwitch.com.
"Help is at hand with comparison sites as uSwitch.com, which provides a 'broadband calculator' to take the hard work out of switching and calculate the best package to meet users' requirements. For as little as an extra £2 a month, the average internet user could connect to the internet at speeds over 35 times faster," he added.
Broadband usage grew by 61% in the UK last year, faster than any other country.
