City TV station goes online

30 June 2006

Broadband customers in Manchester will now be able to view one of their local TV stations via their high-speed internet connection.

Channel M is the first local station in the region to provide news, music and sport 24 hours a day, seven days a week online.

Viewers will have greater control over the content they watch, according to the Manchester Evening News.

A spokesman told the newspaper: "Being available on broadband means Channel M is available when people want to watch it, giving them the flexibility to rewind or fast forward through programmes.

"People also have the facility to watch a programme and then comment on it."

Residents of Scottish islands could also soon be able to watch their local television coverage via a broadband internet connection.

Europe's LEADER+ initiative has funded a project in the Western Isles to allow a range of local events and news to be made available online, reports the BBC.
