Virgin Media has earmarked June to roll out the upgrade for its highest level broadband service, which will run at 20Mbps.
The XL broadband service currently offered by Virgin has a limit of 10Mbps, but the company is hoping to double this in the summer, following some limited trials of the 20Mbps service.
And Virgin has also confirmed it is conducting residential trials of a 50Mbps service, which would provide a huge increase in broadband speed for internet users.
In a statement detailing its financial results, the company explained: "As an end-to-end network owner, cable has inbuilt advantages in the quality of broadband service that we offer.
"Customers can receive consistent speeds no matter where they live on our network and a top speed of 10Mbps is available throughout our broadband addressable areas."
Internet users looking for the fastest ADSL connection at the moment can achieve 24Mbps from Be.
"We will be increasing this to 20Mbps in June and we are also currently conducting a residential trial of a 50Mbps broadband service," the statement read.
The company has also been awarded the Best Consumer ISP at the Internet Services Providers' Association.
