Never one to miss an opportunity, supermarket giant Tesco has announced its intention to enter the voice over internet protocol (VoIP) market by offering its customers both services and devices.
What sets Tesco apart from its competitors is that in a bid to woo consumers who are watching their finances, the supermarket is offering the first pay-as-you-go style VoIP system where the user can buy credit online or with vouchers purchased from any Tesco store.
The internet phone adapter, priced around £49.97, also gives the user the flexibility to use the VoIP system without being tied to a PC. The range of devices compatible with the adapter even include a cordless handset.
Calls from Tesco's equipment to other Tesco VoIP users, UK landlines and selected overseas destinations are charged at just 2p per minute. Service numbers and those starting 0845, along with other worldwide destinations, are charged between 10p and 30p per minute.
