An investigation into the fair usage policies of broadband providers has prompted Toucan to remove the label of "unlimited" from its broadband tariffs.
Information gathered by the independent price comparison and switching website uSwitch.com revealed that a large number of broadband providers who professed to offer their customers "unlimited" broadband were actually prepared to cut off their subscribers if they exceeded their company-set fair usage limit.
In response to the revelation, Toucan has thrown down the gauntlet to its rivals by removing the title of "unlimited" from its website.
Steve Weller, Head of Communications Services at uSwitch.com, commented: "We are impressed to see Toucan taking such immediate action in response to our report. We hope that other broadband companies will follow their example and review their marketing materials, to eradicate consumer confusion on this issue.
Mr Weller continued to say that the comparison site would continue to put pressure on both the industry and the Advertising Standards Agency until this issue was addressed properly.
"In the meantime, we urge consumers to be aware of their broadband usage to make sure they are not caught out," he concluded.
