OECD: 20% subscribe to broadband

27 April 2007

Statistics from a recent European survey conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has revealed that 21.6 Britons out of every 100 are now subscribing to broadband.

This means that Britain is placed 11th in the table for most densely penetrated broadband market within the world's most developed 30 countries.

Figures from the OECD also showed that there had been a 36-fold increase in the number of UK broadband subscriptions since 2001, thought to be due to the increasing speeds of broadband bandwidths and the continual lowering of prices within the highly competitive telecommunications market.

Other results from the OECD survey showed that 12,993,354 Britons are now online, with 16.5% of all Brits using DSL connections and 5.1% using cable.
