Research from Orange Broadband has revealed that 61% of Brits believe they could not live without access to high speed internet, with over half of respondents spending over three hours a day online.
Why we're all addicted to the internet depends largely on where we live, according to the survey, with Londoners primarily using their high-speed broadband connections to utilise social networking websites.
Consumers in the north-east were found to be the most prolific users of buying and selling marketplace websites like eBay, while users in the north-west use their internet services to watch online TV.
Asif Aziz, director of product management at Orange Broadband, commented: "Ten years ago, few of us had fast home internet access or used it regularly, particularly for entertainment, so it's amazing to see how it has evolved to be a pastime as popular as watching TV."
Scottish households were found to be the biggest users of the internet in the UK, with over half of them spending a quarter of the day online.
