AOL to offer free laptops for broadband customers

24 July 2007

The British arm of AOL, now owned by Carphone Warehouse, is offering broadband customers a free Dell laptop when they sign up to a two-year AOL broadband contract.

Reportedly worth around 500, the Dell laptop is quite an incentive to anybody wishing to sign up to a broadband provider, although will most likely appeal to students unable to afford the technology otherwise.

The Wi-Fi enabled laptop will have an impressive 80GB hard drive and a 15.4" screen.

The number of new sign-ups to broadband services has been subject to a downturn recently, which has prompted the radical offers.

Also providing a competitive incentive to sign up is Pipex, which has offered broadband for less than ten pounds per month for the first three months.

Customers wishing to pick up their free laptop can do so by signing up to a contract starting at 19.99 per month which, after the required 24 months will have cost them roughly the price of the laptop itself.
