Local loop unbundling (LLU), where internet service providers install their own broadband network equipment in telephone exchanges, is continuing its rapid growth in the UK.
The telecommunications adjudicator, Peter Black, has released LLU figures for last month, which shows a rise in the volumes of unbundled lines and an improvement in customer migration processes.
In other words LLU lines, by allowing providers to offer generally cheaper broadband deals and bundled packages to consumers, are growing in popularity.
According to the figures, there are now almost 3.2 million unbundled lines in the UK - well up from August's figure of 2.997 million.
In his report, Mr Black said: "Weekly Bulk & Mass Migration throughput volumes have returned to normal levels whilst quality has improved slightly."
However, the adjudicator adds that service quality has shown "little improvement" for September, and that "the underlying failure rate for mainstream repair performance continues at an unacceptably high level (15-25%) and remains substantially short of agreed targets".
