95Broadcaster Sky cemented its position as the UK's fastest-growing broadband provider yesterday by announcing that it has passed the 1 million subscribers mark.
The service was launched less than 14 months ago and customer numbers have been bolstered by being bundled with the firm's well-established satellite TV service.
Sky also announced that 30% of customers joining its service were new to the company's products - and that 70% had opted for the faster 8Mbps and 16Mbps connections over its cheaper 2Mbps service.
Chief Executive at Sky James Murdoch commented: "Our aim is to meet the hunger for better quality, better service and better value, so to be the choice of one million customers after just 14 months is a real achievement."
Head of Communications Services at uSwitch Steve Weller also termed Sky's achievement "very impressive".
He added: "The market is nearly at saturation, so for companies to attract new customers and keep their existing customer base, they need to offer more compelling offers at a lower cost, while maintaining good customer service standards."
