Broadband cheaper than ever say uSwitch

1 February 2008

Broadband services are becoming increasingly affordable in the UK - but customers can still save by shopping around, uSwitch said today.

According to research, the price of a broadband connection has dropped an astonishing 36% over the past four years - pointing to increased competitiveness in the market.

uSwitch found that Britons spend a total of £3 billion annually on their broadband connections across 15 million households.

However, due to some neglecting to switch over to a cheaper deal, broadband users were also found to be missing out on some £162 million-worth of savings.

Steve Weller, Head of Communications Services, at uSwitch, commented: "With broadband both the cheapest and the fastest it's ever been, our love affair with the internet is set to reach great heights this year.

"We predict that prices will stabilise, but customers will be offered more for their money, with companies continuing to increase speeds."

uSwitch also found that connection speeds in the UK - though lagging far behind most European rivals - had improved markedly in recent years.

Today's average broadband speed was shown to be sixteen times faster than in 2004.

However you use the internet, uSwitch.com can find a broadband package that suits you. Whether it's bundled with digital TV and your home phone line or just internet access, our free and impartial service can find a deal to suit. Get yourself a great deal on broadband today.
