Britain should make sure it keeps up with other countries regarding the provision of high-speed broadband, the Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG) has claimed.
Kip Meek, chairman of the BSG, said that there are four outstanding areas that "need to be resolved" to ensure that Britain does not fall behind - policy issues, improving the investment environment, regulation, developing new broadband business models and appropriate government intervention.
Last week, the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) started an independent review into the provision of high-speed broadband, a move which was welcomed by the BSG.
Mr Meek called the review a "timely piece of work", adding: "I do think that in due course, it would be bad for Britain if we were behind our competitors on provision of high-speed broadband."
He stated that "the real question" is the timeline for when this broadband - with speeds of at least 100Mbps - should be required to be rolled out.
