Fresh device 'could improve broadband speeds'

New equipment has been created by officials at a Welsh university that could help improve broadband speeds, it has been claimed.

Researchers at the University of Bangor claimed that the solution will make the service 100 times quicker than it is at present and with lowered prices.

After the trials, a prototype is to be created by experts at the venue, something they claimed will be a positive boost for the industry.

School of electronic engineering official Dr Jianming Tang noted that many people could see the benefits of improved technology.

"Importantly, it works with the existing fibre optic technology we have, so there is no need to rip out the cabling which runs the country's telecommunications network," he commented.

At present, it is difficult to say what the cost of such services would be, Dr Tang added, while it could sit close to a computer in the home.

Recent research from Point Topic suggested that global broadband prices are set to rise.
