Internet TV 'pushed by broadband'

17 March 2008

Broadband services are helping to push the popularity of internet television solutions, one analyst has claimed.

President and chief operations officer at Narrowstep Barak Bar-Cohen stated that the European market is seeing growth in this area and, is at this stage, ahead of the US in terms of broadband services available.

Furthermore, the quality of the programmes on offer has also meant that more consumers wish to access them online, Mr Bar-Cohen remarked.

He commented: "Broadband penetration is so much higher in this part of the world, so it's really broadband penetration that is driving TV over the internet and streaming adoption."

The firms broadcasting the services are also looking to boost their revenues via such channels, the expert noted.

Recently, BT Wholesale stated that service providers should offer a greater element of realism to customers when advertising the speed of broadband.

If this is the case then fewer customers will be disappointed with their connections, it claimed.
