Broadband 'hits Carphone shares'

15 April 2008

A slowing down in broadband sales has hit shares in Carphone Warehouse this week, it was revealed.

In total, 109,000 such consumers were added at the end of March but this was fewer than the 118,000 witnessed in the quarter before this, reports the Times.

But the retailer noted that profits should still hit about £215 million or £220 million for the year ending in the same month.

Chief Executive at the firm Charles Dunston claimed that his outfit has still performed well despite a weaker market in recent times.

"Our performance over the last three months has been good in a slower consumer environment," he commented.

And the company added that there remain a high number of opportunties in the years ahead for positive expansion despite trouble with the economy.

Mr Dunston helped to found the firm back in 1989 and it now has over a thousand stores in the European region.
